Dr Erica Bowen

I am a pragmatic hope-maker in that I believe change is possible for everyone, but you need a goal, a plan and you need to act.

I am a rebellious ambivert in that I love challenging the status quo (never tell me I can’t do something!), but need down time, an oat latte and good book to recover.

As a radical empath and HSP I connect deeply with my clients because I have walked the path they are on, and I use my empathy to help them create change for themselves.

I am a registered forensic and coaching psychologist with more than 20 years’ experience of supporting people to achieve their potential and live better lives, and it almost didn’t happen.

I grew up quickly in a working-class dysfunctional family but loved reading, playing musical instruments and learning.  I obtained a place at University a year early.  I was the archetypal ‘good girl’. And then I dropped out.

Three years later and my world turned around after I found psychology and so began my passion for helping others create change.

Fourteen years after that I had three degrees in Psychology under my belt (including a PhD), and with a 6-year-old son and ageing parents I was a Registered Forensic Psychologist specialising in domestic abuse prevention and promoted to Full Professor at the age of 37.

Sounds amazing, right?

Well it could have been apart from the fact I was on the verge of burnout, again.

I remember standing crying in the kitchen of my new-build house, asking myself ‘if I have all this, why do I still feel empty?’.

I had always believed my purpose was to make the world a better place somehow, and had worked tirelessly to create impact, and although my research and teaching was doing some of that, it seemed too abstract; not enough, and the pressure I was putting myself under was impacting my mental and physical health.

And then I found coaching, and everything changed.

Coaching enabled me to embrace my naturally held belief that people are not broken, they have the skills and resources they need to succeed, but sometimes they get disconnected from them.  Just like I had.

Today, this is what I do.

As a self-leadership coach, I help female leaders and business owners who are driven to make the world a better place, step past overwhelm and self-doubt so they can lead with courage and lead the change they want to create in the world without burning out.

Between us we imagine, create and thrive.
